A highly proficient writer, editor and nit-picking proofreader, I am comfortable in both PC and Mac environments.
Writer and editor (4/05 to present) on a variety of independent assignments, including articles for the North Bay Bohemian, Stanford alumni magazine, The Sonoma Index-Tribune, the marketing department of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and other publications, businesses and individuals. I'm known for always meeting deadlines with well-researched, thoughtful stories on a variety of subjects. Additional projects include copy editing, proofreading, manuscript editing and teaching writing classes at Sonoma Valley Adult School. Web Content Writer (11/06 to present) on a freelance basis for CostHelper.com, a consumer website. This involves extensive online research and phone interviews as needed to create short, easy-to-read articles on a wide range of topics of interest to consumers, such as home improvement projects, dental work, legal costs and more. Reporter (11/05-12/07), part-time, at the North Bay Bohemian, an alternative newsweekly serving Marin, Napa and Sonoma counties in Northern California. Assignments ranged from in-depth, 3,000-word cover features to extremely detailed and concise weekly news briefs of 100 to 400 words. I covered everything from the impacts of methamphetamines in the North Bay to where to find the best cooking classes. Co-Author, "The Sugar's at the Bottom of the Cup" (published 10/04), an engaging first-person memoir of an Italian-American woman whose life spanned most of the 20th century and part of the 21st. The first chapter is online at www.SugarAtTheBottom.com. News editor/reporter (6/95 to 4/05), Sonoma Index-Tribune, a twice-weekly community-oriented newspaper in Sonoma, Calif. I produced a high volume of stories, both features and hard news, on tight deadlines. As news editor, I assigned stories and reviewed work by both fulltime and freelance reporters; handled the daily update of web site content; and did page layout, design and production coordination as needed. Over the years, my beat assignments included wine, arts, entertainment, agriculture, the environment, education, business and general assignment.
